Bristol Beacon Organ Update

Bristol Music Trust has launched an appeal for donations towards the cost of reinstating the Harrison & Harrison concert organ in Bristol Beacon (formerly known as the Colston Hall). £250,000 has already been pledged by the J & M Britton Music Trust, but another £800,000 is needed to complete the restoration.

The latest word from Harrisons is that the organ will return and be re-built in its original chamber during May and June of this year. They also hope to be able at least to tune the organ this year, but there will not be enough ‘silent time’ available in the hall’s schedule for the all-important voicing process to be carried out before the hall reopens on 30 November. The instrument will not therefore be ‘signed-off’ until early in 2024. As soon as a date becomes known we will publish it here.

An appeal leaflet has been produced which you can download here, and there’s also a donation form which shows the payment options and sponsor benefits. Of particular interest to organists and enthusiasts is the opportunity to join the Organ Supporters Circle, where your donation will be further rewarded with exclusive offers, including having your name on a permanent plaque.

Of course donations of any amount are equally welcome, and every such expression of support will help to ensure that the fully refurbished instrument, when it returns as The Britton Organ, will once again be able to fill the hall with its glorious sound.

Further details of the several ways in which you can support the refurbishment of the organ can be found on the Bristol Beacon website – just click here.
