Illustrated talk by James Lancelot at All Saints Clifton on
J S Bach’s Orgelbüchlein
“…in which guidance is given to an inquiring organist in how to accomplish a chorale [prelude] in all kinds of ways, and at the same time to become practised in the study of pedalling… for the highest God alone Honour…” (Bach’s own summary of the contents of his little organ book.)
In his talk this afternoon, James Lancelot will play a number of the chorales in the Orgelbüchlein as well as talk about them. He has suggested that members may wish to bring along a copy if you have one so you can follow the music. He will be playing from the Neue Bach Ausgabe edition, but either the Walter Emery Novello edition or the Peters will be fine. The organ at All Saints is very well suited to these works which is why James has chosen it.
We will serve tea/coffee/hot chocolate before the event which you can then take into the church to enjoy. Car parking is free on a Saturday afternoon in Pembroke Road and the surrounding streets.
